What is white label?

White label = your label. White label is just a fancy word for outsourcing. White label services are sold and represented by your company, but your in-house team doesn’t perform the service. Instead, a third-party company does the work and delivers it to your project manager, who then runs quality control and delivers it to the end client.

Think of white label services as the ultimate partnership: you get to worry about sales and customer service, while the white label company focuses on the nitty-gritty details of the project.

The term white label seems to have roots in the fashion industry, in which the actual labels in clothing were white and unbranded during the manufacturing process. Different designs would be sold to different companies, who would add their brand to the label and sell the products to the consumers, taking full credit for the design.

Is white labeling legal?

Yes! White label is a legal partnership. The white label company is essentially a sub-contractor for the “sales” or branded company. When we do white label work, we sign a contract in which we agree that Scepter Marketing won’t receive any credit for the work. It’s sort of like ghostwriting. Think of us as ghost web designers. We represent you and your company when we do white label work for you.

Who can benefit from white label services?

When your team is stretched thin, hiring a white label company is a great way to ease the burden while still raking in the dough, scaling your company, and retaining clients. In that sense, many kinds of companies can benefit from white label work, especially digital agencies who can collaborate easily with remote teams to deliver web design and digital marketing work. Other professionals that commonly use white label services include:

  • Content writing agencies
  • IT consultants
  • Web developers
  • Graphic designers
  • Marketing consultants
  • Manufacturers
  • Venture capitalists
  • Associations offering member benefits
  • Startup incubators

It’s difficult to run a small business and have all the answers to your clients’ requests. That’s why having a white label team just a phone call or email away to help you fill in those gaps in your expertise is particularly helpful, even when you’re not overwhelmed with clients.

What is a white label solution?

You’ve got a great concept but no idea how to execute it. Go the white label solution route! Hire a team on a white label basis to supply your product or service, while you go to town marketing it and drumming up sales. As we said previously, you don’t have to have all the answers or be a total business-savvy guru to succeed with a great idea. You need the right team, and sometimes the bulk of your team (the white label side!) is already pre-assembled and ready to go.

What makes white label successful for my business?

First, white label increases your business’s success because you get to say YES to your clients instead of saying, “Sorry, I don’t offer that” or “I just don’t have the time right now.” When you turn clients away, they search for other solutions … and sometimes they end up finding a company who is bigger and better equipped to handle more of their needs. Before you know it, you lost a client. All because you couldn’t, for example, set up a WordPress site or meet their deadline.

Well, losing a client over something like that is just silly, but it happens! Say YES to your clients by having a white label partnership in your back pocket, ready to go whenever you need it.

Second, you still retain full control over your company’s pricing when you hire a white label team. You need to pay our team of course, but we don’t tell you what you have to charge your end client. You can add a mark-up to satisfy your income needs. And in a way, it’s easy money, especially when you have a low-maintenance client.

Third, you’ll want to choose a white label agency that works in the same or similar time zone as you if you foresee a need for quick communication. Some white label agencies exist across the world and it’s exciting to wake up in the morning and check their work, but then you’ll have to wait until the next day to hear back from them … so choose wisely for white label success.

Finally, having a white label team on your side can actually free up your time so that you can finally dedicate more time toward generating leads or writing your novel or sipping margaritas at the beach … whatever your jam, white label is a win-win. We sign NDAs and turn into busy but invisible worker bees once our partnership officially starts. Scepter Marketing who? We’re part of your team now!
