The last couple of years for Scepter have been about finding our stride. We are in the “web business” sure, but what that meant to us was vague. Not having a clear focus, we dabbled here and there haphazardly looking for our something that “fit” us well. In 2014 we think we’ve hit our stride. We have finally been able to narrow down our identity as a company on the web. Essentially, we are about two things:
- We provide high quality, holistic web solutions to our customers and partners
- We build trusted communities of web users around some of our favorite industries
The first piece is mostly outwardly focused. We aim to provide excellent services to create raving fans rather than cheap services. Having tried both over the years, we’ve found that providing holistic, quality services is better long term for everyone involved. We hope that continuing this stance will attract more of the type of clients we enjoy partnering with.
Most people are familiar with the adage, “The customer is always right,” but this statement is nonsense. The reason we get paid to do what we do is because we’re great at it. It should follow from this that customers should listen to what we have to say in a more collaborative relationship than we have sometimes had in the past. Starting this year, we are going to try to foster more collaboration and stronger relationships and move away from a more transaction oriented mindset.
The second piece is more inwardly focused. We realized there were somethings we loved doing and other things we hated doing. All things being equal, we’re opting to do the ones we enjoy and leaving behind the ones we do not. While this may leave some money on the table, we’re not into gaining the world at the expense of our souls. We’ve narrowed down a few areas of the web that we really enjoy and we are building our projects around these interests of ours. A few of these include WordPress, Hip-Hop, and Marketing. No, they’re not related, but we’re okay with that.
Out of this mindset has come the brand new Scepter Labs where we get to talk about the more random projects we’re doing here or there for fun and profit. It’s our little piece of the web to share our insights and our upcoming projects.
We are excited about 2014 and all that it will bring, and we’re thankful to God to be able to say that we’re still standing stronger than ever when so many other companies have collapsed or closed up shop. Here’s to 2014 being our best year yet. And we wish the same to you.
