Menu setup if you use the WordPress static front page

For anyone setting up their site with a static front page (home page) based on the method WordPress has for customizing your home page, you will need to make an adjustment to some code in the navigation.php file because it’s a coded menu for your site. Follow the instructions from the WordPress site for creating a static home page or use the one in my WordPress blog category but before you continue to the next step once you make your “home” page, write the ID of that page – you will need this later.

Once you have completed the steps, you can then open the navigation.php file for this theme and look for this line of code:

<?php wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&title_li=&exclude=1'); ?>

In the code above, change the “1” to the ID number of your new home page. The reason you do this is so that you don’t end up with two “home” menu items.
