Change your header background

The header background has a dark gradient which is where your site title, caption, and showcase are located:

When you change the header background style, the dark gradient is the part that will change. Your choices:

  1. Default
  2. Rust
  3. Olive
  4. Amber
  5. Brown
  6. Wine
  7. Taupe
  8. Grey
  9. Grape
  10. Marine
  11. Custom
  12. Colour

Change Your Background

  1. Go to your Theme Settings and click on the Style & Colour Settings panel
  2. Select the Header Background from the dropdown list.
  3. Click Save Changes

About the Custom Option

If you have your own custom background you want to use, the Custom option lets you do this, but you have a couple things to do. Please note that you should have some css knowledge to accomplish this because you will be modifying the theme’s style sheet.

  1. Go to your Theme Settings and click on the Style & Colour Settings Panel
  2. Select the “Custom” option in the dropdown list
  3. Click Save Changes
  4. Open your theme’s style.css file and look for this:
    #inner4-Custom {} /* add your own background styling */
  5. Change the above style code to your own. You can use the related styles as a reference to help you out, but remember if you are using an image or gradient image, this needs to be uploaded to your theme’s image file (not the media library of WP); your image will go into wp-content/themes/layerstheme/images/
  6. Save everything

About the Colour Option

The other option is the Colour choice in the dropdown list. Although this lets you use your own custom style, it’s based on a background colour instead of an image.

  1. Go to your Theme Settings and click on the Style & Colour Settings panel
  2. Select the “Colour” option in the dropdown list
  3. Click in the Header Colour field and a popup colour selector will show
    header-background-colour
  4. Choose your colour and then click outside the colour selector to close it
  5. Click Save Changes
